CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Parts of an electric bike sprawled across a quiet Clovis neighborhood marked where a teenage boy and a truck collided.

Clovis Police say just after 1 pm Wednesday, the boy was riding his e-bike without a helmet in the area of Athens and Perry when the crash happened.

"He had lower major injury to his legs. He was immediately transported to CRMC," Clovis Police Cpl. Mark Bradford said on Wednesday afternoon. "At this time, he's in stable but critical condition."

Police say the boy was trying to make money in his neighborhood this summer, pulling a cart with a pressure washer, which was left broken in the street.

The truck was just feet away with front damage as police canvassed the area for video and witnesses.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

"No alcohol or drugs appear to be a factor in either party," Bradford said.

With Clovis Unified students returning to class next week, drivers may see more kids on e-bikes heading to school.

"Parents, drivers and vehicles around school zones or residential areas need to keep their heads on a swivel, pay attention to their speed," Bradford advised.

Motion Madness Electric Bikes in Clovis says bicyclists should stay in the bike lanes and know who they're sharing the road with.

"Stay off your cell phone. Preach to your kids to wear their helmets. It saves lives. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. That goes for bicyclists and drivers," Bradford said.
