Teenager shot at park in Hanford, suspect still at large, police say

HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) -- A neighborhood park shooting in Hanford.

Officers were called to Lacey Park a little after 4:30 pm Monday.

"The Hanford Police Department received multiple callers saying that there were 10 to 12 gunshots being fired off in the area," said Hanford Police Sgt. Chad Allen.

When officers arrived, they found a teenage boy with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the suspect or suspects got away. They believe the shooting is an isolated incident.

After the victim was taken to the hospital, detectives laid out evidence markers and collected items around Lacey Park.

"Bullets don't have a name on them, you know. One stray and it could go into my house, and my kid could just be sitting at the table eating," said one concerned neighbor who didn't want to be identified.

The neighbor has lived in the area for about eight years. She's a single mother with three kids, and after this shooting, she said it makes her even more nervous to live in an area that's already dangerous.

"There's a lot of activity that goes on at this park, and it's sadly not children playing. It should just be children playing, families gathering, but every once in a while, it's mayhem," she said.

About an hour before the shooting at Lacey Park, police said there was another shooting at 11th and Davis.

"At this time, we have no information of any victims in that case," said Sgt. Allen.

Police don't believe the two incidents are related.

As detectives continue to figure out what happened, anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
