It's back to school season, and every retailer is fighting to get customers in the door.
Stephanie Carls, a Retail Insights Expert with RetailMeNot, suggests shopping online instead of in store to stack those savings.
"Going and shopping online first because that's where you're going to have a better understanding of those sales," Carls said.
She encourages people look for additional promo codes or cashback offers on RetailMeNot.
Keep in mind, certain brands like Cat & Jack at Target offer warranties on their clothes and shoes even if they're worn, damaged or outgrown.
You can return the items for up to one year with the receipt.
Carls also suggests shopping secondhand.
Fairy Godmother's Closet in northeast Fresno is one option.
"We offer gently used children's clothes all the way up to 18-20 in youth," Owner Amy Ratliff said.
The owners say they keep a variety of clothing including jeans, short and long sleeve shirts, and shoes -- including athletic shoes -- throughout the year.
They stock their store by purchasing gently used clothing from customers, but they say they have high standards for what they accept.
"Like, if it doesn't look brand new, we're probably not going to take it," Jerica Lovett said.
While the clothes may look new, they don't sell for retail prices.
"These Abercrombie jeans right now, they're on sale on their website for $40. We have them priced for $12.50," Lovett said. "We have this Marvel jean jacket. On Amazon, it's going for $39.99 and it is $7.50."
Shoppers can stretch their dollar through the store's reward program.
For every $100 spent, you'll receive a $10 coupon.
On Tuesdays, almost anything that fits in a tote is 20% off.
If you sell your clothes to the store and get paid through store credit, they'll increase your payout by 10%.
Carls says don't panic buy.
You don't have to buy everything in one trip or before school starts.
You can expect to see sales again for Labor day or Black Friday.
"Start with what they need or just going through and filling in some of those gaps as those deals are dropping," Carls said.
If you decide to order clothes online, Carls suggests using the in-store pick up option.
Make sure you take your children to try on the clothes when you pick them up.
If they don't fit, you can return them while you're there so you don't have to make a second trip.
