On Wednesday, the first of many colorful projects was unveiled in east central Fresno.
One of the vibrant traffic boxes is located on McKinley near the Fresno Yosemite International Airport and 144th Fighter Wing.
It was created through the Box Art Program and celebrates aviation.
Kayla Casteel is the artist behind the piece called "Sky Conductors" and has some personal inspiration -- their partner is an air traffic controller.
Family was an important factor while working on the project.
"Most importantly, I got to be cool in front of my children," Casteel said. "They were impressed that I did something, and it teaches them if you try hard to do something, you put in the hard work, it can pay off and it totally did, so I feel very honored and privileged to be a part of this project and the first one selected."
Artists of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to submit designs during the City's open Call for Artists.
