Blase was arrested in June of 2020 alongside her child's father, 28 year-old Eziquiel Ramirez.
Both were initially charged with murder, assault on a child causing death, and torture but in 2021 Blase pleaded guilty to felony child endangerment.
"This is a tragic case, the young boy no question, suffered, he was tortured, finally killed and the mother not being home at the time, and then finding out later and not being able to see her child when the child was in the hospital before he died, and keep in mind she was incarcerated for a period of time because of this," explains Tony Capozzi, Action News Legal Analyst.
On Tuesday morning, a judge sentenced Blase to four years of probation, after accruing more than 1,400 days worth of credit while serving time.
Blase was also ordered to pay thousands of dollars in restitution and participate in a 52-week child abuse prevention course, at her expense.
The defense requested her face not be shown, because they say she was also a victim of abuse by Ramirez.
"The defendant was motivated by desires to provide necessities for her family and self, as she indicated that codefendant Ramirez forced her into prostitution to provide for her child and would leave him alone with the codefendant ultimately resulting in the child's murder," said Tulare County Judge, Melinda Reed, as she read Blase her punishment.
In May of this year, Ramirez pleaded guilty to first-degree murder with the special circumstance of torture, and seven counts of pimping and soliciting for prostitution.
He is now serving life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 35 years.
Blase's Defense attorney, Sally Vecchiarelli, declined our request for an interview, but shared a statement that said, "This case is heartbreaking and gut wrenching. Ms. Blase has been fighting for justice for Joziah for six years. While she must serve four years on probation, she has been punished with a lifetime without her son, Joziah, the light of her life."
Cappozi adds, "No one wins in this case, no one at all, even the person who was just sentenced today to probation, she is not going to jail for more time but she is going to live with this the rest of her life because of what happened to her son and what happened to her."
The next step for Blase will be checking in with probation.
At this point no review hearings were ordered by the court.
