TULARE, Calif. (KFSN) -- Plans for big changes are underway for one Tulare County community. The new developments could benefit people from around the world.

World AG Expo grounds could look different in the coming years as the International Agri-Center non-profit behind the annual event has submitted its hotel master plans to the City of Tulare's planning commission for approval.

"We do have a request for proposals out for a new hotel right here on our property, which is really exciting. I think a lot of people don't know that we do a lot out of the World Ag Expo. The World Ag Expo is, you know, known worldwide as our premier event, but we have about 200 other events here on our property," explains assistant general manager, Megan Lausten.

She says the grounds welcome about 200,000 people annually.

Events like their California Antique Farm Equipment Show happening this upcoming weekend keep them busy.

The largest event is the globally recognized World-Ag Expo, which attracts over 100,000 people each year.

"Of course, Tulare County is always one of the top-producing AG counties in the state and in the nation. So it's not super surprising, but it is, when you really think about it, that such a small community can have such a big impact across the world," expresses Lausten.

Planning is in its early stages, but the almost-ready International Agri-Center Way is a sign that developments are pushing in the right direction.

Meanwhile, the City of Tulare and nearby towns can expect a boost in economic impact.

"It helps us locally. It not only provides construction jobs initially, but also long-term jobs and the hospitality industry. It helps generate more hotel tax revenue for the city," explains Tulare City Manager Marc Mondell.

The city and the non-profit hope to honor local roots in agriculture.

Helping accommodate people from around the world while maintaining a small-town charm.

"This community size is really perfect, where you still have a lot of traditions, you have a lot of cultural activities and events. You have people who grew up here now," expresses Mondell.

Construction for the hotel is a few years away.

In the meantime, the International Agri-Center and the city say they will continue to work alongside those local partners to make sure their plans come to fruition.
