Averi Mitton and Ali Hamel, fraternal twins who are inseparable and do everything together.
"You have a built-in best friend that you can call and you can trust," Hamel said.
They also work as critical care nurses at Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno. Mitton said their similarities can even confuse patients and doctors.
"Sometimes our patients get a little mixed up or the doctors want us to stand side by side and try to tell the difference and then they fail at it. But honestly it's super fun," Mitton said.
They have long dreamed of raising their children together. That dream once appeared uncertain for Hamel after she was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor in 2021.
Hamel underwent surgery to remove part of the tumor and initially believed her fertility journey would improve.
"I was able to go in and have my surgery and resect part of that tumor, we thought from there it would be smooth sailing for my fertility journey and it just wasn't," she said.
She dealt with infertility for several years and suffered a miscarriage in 2025. As Mitton began growing her family, Hamel worried she would not share the experience.
"I felt like her children were going to grow up and I was just not going to be experiencing that part of life with her," Hamel said.
After multiple rounds of fertility treatment, Hamel sensed something different before beginning a fifth round.
"When I got that pregnancy test it was the shock of my life," she said.
She knew she couldn't wait to share the news with her sister and captured the emotional on TikTok. The video has since gained more than six million views and over 900,000 likes. Hamel also posted videos of family members reacting to the news.
"Her pregnancy is a big deal to our whole family," Mitton said.
The sisters are about four weeks apart in their pregnancies and have shared similar symptoms. Mitton, who has been pregnant before, is using her experience to help guide her sister.
For Hamel, the pregnancy represents more than long-awaited joy.
"When I got to hear my son's heartbeat for the first time it was something I looked forward to for so long. It just felt like every hard month and heartache that I had just slipped away," she said.
The twins are now preparing for the next chapter together. Mitton is expecting a baby girl in October, while Hamel will welcome a baby boy in November.
