In 2007, Suzanne K. Oliver lost her son, Josh, to suicide.
At a young age, Josh struggled with depression and anxiety.
"When he was 21, it just got so bad," she said. "We took him to a psychiatrist because he actually told us he didn't want to live, and the psychiatrist put him on medication."
Josh died after he had just turned 21.
After coping through the grief of losing Josh, several years later, Suzanne also lost first husband, Keith.
"In 2011, my husband blamed himself for our son's depression," Suzanne said. "It's really hard to talk about, but he ended up taking his life."
Throughout the pain and loss, Suzanne found comfort in nature.
She also found healing in her spiritual community.
"I had a lot of people praying with me for my healing, to help me get through it," she said.
After dealing with neck surgery and retiring from teaching in 2023, Suzanne had to figure out her next steps.
That's when she decided to turn her pain into action, by writing her book "Right Now."
Suzanne says her book focuses on the mind, body, and spirit.
"To me, it clearly is a hollistic approach," she said. "You have to include everything. If you're only doing counseling, that's good, but you also have to take care of your body and your spiritual self."
Spreading awareness on suicide is a passion for Suzanne.
She hopes with her book, she reaches people who might also be struggling.
Suzannne is also working on several other books, including a children's book that teaches kids about mental health.
