Watching Your Wallet: Local Chase Bank locations offering financial literacy classes

Updated 2 hours ago
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- When it comes to saving and budgeting, it's never too early to learn lessons in finance.

"As you're aware, kids see and hear everything, so starting at a young age to build those concepts for them that they take for the rest of their lives is crucial," says Chase Bank Community Manager Karla Contreras.

She says that we should start simple.

"That weekly allowance, have them fill out a quick budget sheet," she said. "What are wants vs needs? Do you need that video game, or do we need shoes for school?"

These lessons will take them into adulthood.

"We all know that the more we know, the better we can make these financial decisions, build that generational wealth and make sure that we're sound and healthy in all of the choices we make," Contreras said.

The community branches of Chase Bank, including the Fashion Fair location, offer complimentary financial literacy classes with open space to host in person or online.

Those classes include "Valuable Money Lessons for Families," pairing the budgeting tips for all ages with a backpack giveaway when you RSVP.

"Please register because we are limited quantity while supplies last, but you will receive a backpack with all the school supplies that a teacher would request for kids on the first day of school," Contreras said.

The workshops last about 45 minutes, with extra time for any questions you may have.
