HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Hanford Police Department is investigating an early Monday morning shooting that claimed the life of a local woman.

Police say they received a call reporting an argument between a man and a woman in the 500 block of Northstar Drive.

The caller then heard gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found the woman lying on the roadway with at least one gunshot wound.

She was taken to Adventist Health and was pronounced dead.

"It's a very family-oriented area, so to hear that this happened here, it is insane to me. I grew up here my whole life. This is crazy. This is happening right here," expresses Alyssa, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years.

She describes it as quiet and safe.

The overnight incident is shocking.

"Nothing like this has happened in this area that I am aware of at all. I haven't heard of anything like that," says Alyssa.

At the scene, detectives found evidence of a struggle.

They are still trying to figure out what led up to the shooting, and using local surveillance to help the investigation.

"Video cameras from the area, Ring doorbell cameras, Vivid doorbell cameras, surveillance cameras from nearby businesses. Detectives are working, trying to get that from residents and business owners," explains Lt. Justin Vallin with the Hanford Police Department.

The department says they are still working on identifying the woman and the shooter.

"Hopefully, they find whoever did this and get them behind bars as quickly as they can because it's tragic for Hanford and the residents of Hanford," expresses local resident Alysa.

The Hanford Police Department says anyone with information about the case (H2601102) can contact Hanford Police Detective Escalera at 559-585-2535.

This marks the city's second homicide of the year.
