It happened in the area of Maple and Florence Avenues around 2 Wednesday afternoon.
Nearby Balderas Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but it has been lifted.
Police say witnesses saw someone with a gun before gunfire hit a man in his 20's.
Officers say several shell casings were found in the Maple Grove Apartment Complex.
Detectives are reaching out to residents to figure out who fired the shots.
