FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Another Republican joined the fierce fight for California's 26th Assembly District.

Sixth generation cattleman Jack Lavers announced he will run for the South Valley seat, currently filled by Devon Mathis.

Last month, Mathis came under scrutiny for sexual assault investigations by the Sacramento Police Department.

Visalia Mayor Warren Gubler has also announced, he is running for the seat.

If elected, the 34-year old Lavers says he will vote against increased regulation and taxation, without representation.

"When I start a job, I finish a job, on time and under budget. And although this race won't be easy, I'm going to fight for you, your family, your business, and for the generations to come," said Jack Lavers.

Last night, the Tulare County Republican Party unanimously approved a resolution to censure Devon Mathis.

They say he is an embarrassment to his constituents, and they have called on him to resign and apologize for his past behavior.
