FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Just after 5 Sunday afternoon, Fresno police were called to the area of Martin Luther King Blvd and California near Zach's Market for reports of a person threatening people with a gun.

As officers headed to the scene, they heard multiple gunshots fired.

Once they arrived at the market, witnesses told officers the suspects drove away in a white car.

"It was very crucial that the citizens were very helpful in pointing out the vehicle," says Fresno Police Lt. Zeb Price.

As some officers pursued the vehicle, other officers went to the market, where they found a man who had been shot.

The victim, who is a man in his 40's, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Officers were able to eventually stop the suspect vehicle at Church and Walnut.

"That pursuit then ended in a pitting of the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped, and two occupants in the vehicle were detained," explains Lieutenant Price.

Officers say during the pursuit, a weapon was thrown out of the vehicle and was recovered by police.

They believe a second gun was thrown and have not tracked it down.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call the Fresno Police Department.
