The non-profit organization's mission is to recruit, train and support volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the foster care system. Advocates are trained and then assigned by the court to a case with a child or children currently in the foster care system.
According to CASA, when children are placed in foster care they have many professionals making decisions for their lives, from the dependency court judges to social workers, foster parents, etc. CASA was started to provide a non-biased, unpaid volunteer to work with the system and make sure foster children are being set up to have healthy and successful futures.
Currently, there are over 2,500 children in foster care within Fresno and Madera Counties. CASA welcomes volunteers to become Court Appointed Special Advocates. The annual CASA Crab Feed is the organization's biggest fundraiser and features crab, chicken, entertainment and silent auction.
