NEW YORK -- In this Upper East Side storefront, you'll find everything from tuna cans the size of your pinky finger to feather-light napkin holders. Welcome to Tiny Doll House, one of the city's most whimsical businesses specializing in all things miniature.

"Tiny Doll House is a brick-and-mortar shop specializing in dollhouses and everything that goes into them: foods, accessories, people, and so forth," explains Leslie Edelman, Tiny Doll House's owner and shopkeeper of over thirty-five years.

His interest in miniatures began when he decided to make a dollhouse for his niece. Soon enough, his hobby became a business.

"I always enjoyed interior design and things like that. I always like to make things and do things," Edelman recounts. "I became fascinated with the elements of everything that go into the dollhouse."

His fascination shows within the shop's seemingly-endless selection of items: the shop's curated inventory is sourced from over five-hundred different artisans around the world, with many of them specializing in a single item, from hand-carved mini furniture to thumb-sized charcuterie boards.

"I think the thing that surprises people the most when they come in is the complete variety of items that we have, and the very wide range of things that we offer."

The shop's clientele consists of, in Edelman's words, "anybody from 2 to 92. We have young children, adults, collectors, set designers, movie makers... all kinds of people that utilize our items."

"Everybody smiles here. There's never anybody that's unhappy or grumpy," Edelman says. Aside from the shop's clear fun-sized charm, he believes the miniature worlds his customers can discover through the shop offer a sense of escapism.

"We're offering a little relief from the world to create the world that you want."
