When deputies arrived, they found a woman between the ages of 25- 40 years old dead on the road.

"Definitely not collision related. Indications on scene were that this is a homicide. Detectives were called out and we started the initial stages of a homicide investigation," Lieutenant Arley Terrence with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said.

Action News spoke to people in the rural area just east of Fowler. They say this is a quiet and usually safe part place just outside.

As of Sunday afternoon, Lieutenant Terrence says detectives are still trying to identify the victim.

"We're going through missing persons files to try to determine if I can find a match but so far, we haven't been able to do so. And when we get confirmation on the victims identity, we will be releasing that," Terrence said.

He adds there have been no suspects identified at this time.

Detectives are still trying to piece together what led up to the crime and have not yet revealed victims cause of death.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.
