2 shot while driving on Highway 41 in Madera County, CHP says

A motive for the shooting has not been released.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities are investigating after two people were shot while driving on Highway 41 in Madera County on Monday morning.

The California Highway Patrol says a Chevy Impala with three people inside was traveling along southbound on Highway 41 near Highway 145 at around 3:40 am, when someone in a nearby pick-up truck opened fire.

One person suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of their chest. The second victim's injuries weren't immediately known.

The victims flagged down a CHP officer for help near Avenue 12. One of the victims was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno, while the other two victims drove to St. Agnes Medical Center in northeast Fresno for treatment.

Investigators described the suspect's vehicle as a silver Nissan truck. A motive for the shooting has not been released.

The CHP has part of southbound Highway 41 at the intersection with Highway 145 closed while officers and Madera County sheriff's deputies investigate. A detour has been set up for drivers in the area.
