The Fresno County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a call of shots fired on Los Angeles and Myrtle streets just after 4:30 p.m. Friday.
When deputies arrived, they found a person down in the roadway. Action News cameras captured a white Nissan that appeared to have some damage, also in the road, next to evidence markers.
Authorities say the victim was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies have not released the victim's identity as they are working to notify the family.
At this point, it's unclear if there is one or multiple suspects or a possible motive.
"Beginning stages and typically in any investigation at this point, we would be canvassing for surveillance, witness statements, and all that if there are any," FCSO Sergeant Alan Kelzer said.

The shooting happened about a block away from a weekly farmers market, which was filled with families and vendors. Some of those attendees telling Action News they have seen an uptick in violence in their community.
As of late Friday night, most of the surrounding neighborhood remained blocked off as investigators continue their investigation. Authorities say they expect to be in the area through Saturday.
Anyone with information on this shooting is urged to contact detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.
