Police say the shooting happened Wednesday night in the area of Fresno Street and Belmont Avenue.
Investigators say the victim was later found with a gunshot wound to the thigh a few blocks from where the reported shooting occurred.
He was taken to the hospital and with severe injuries but is expected to live.
No suspect information is available at this time.
Frenso police say they are looking for additional witnesses and survellence footage around the area.
Fresno and Mariposa streets is blocked off at Belmont and Grant avenues and will remain closed for several hours. Those traveling through the area will need to find alternate route.
