The Fresno County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that one person has been detained.
According to deputies, around 1:13 p.m. on Thursday, they received reports of someone being stabbed at Courthouse Park.
Sheriff's deputies assigned to the courthouse immediately went outside to give aid to the male victim, identified as a Fresno County employee, and searched for the suspect.
The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Deputies say that the victim was awake and talking when transported. His exact condition is unknown.
Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni said the victim was going about his daily work when the stabbing occurred.
Around three minutes after the stabbing, a deputy found the suspect, a man in his 50s, off Van Ness Avenue and Fresno Street, in the northwest corner of the park.
Deputies used a taser to take the suspect down and detain him.
Per protocol, officials say the suspect will be taken to the hospital before being booked into the Fresno County Jail.
The weapon used in the stabbing was recovered by authorities.
Investigators are looking into a motive. It is unclear if the victim was a target. The Sheriff described the stabbing as "unprovoked."
Sheriff Zanoni urged people to remain vigilant, keep their heads up, and pay attention to their surroundings when in Courthouse Park and advised people not to be buried in their phones while walking through the area.
