Quick was gunned down the night of April 23, 2025, outside the Clovis McDonald's. Exactly a year later, loved ones gathered at the site to reflect on his life and the memories they shared.
"We wanted to make sure that this is a happy spot, McDonald's is a happy spot, a place that they can have good memories of Caleb," said Steven Quick, Caleb's father.
Quick was a high school senior who was about to graduate and had plans to join the AirForce, according to his family.
His father said the absence left by his son is felt every day.
"It's been hard, everywhere he goes the room lights up, so it's a little bit dimmer at the dinner table. There's more food to be passed around," Steven Quick said.
Action News has followed developments in the murder investigation since the beginning.
Nine days after the attack, Clovis police released surveillance video from inside the McDonald's and identified a white Tesla as the suspected getaway car.
The vehicle was later seized from a Clovis home, and a teenage girl was removed in handcuffs and identified as the getaway driver.
The shooter remained on the loose for more than two weeks. Eventually, both teens, a girl and a boy, were arrested and charged with the murder.
A growing memorial remains at the site of the shooting, serving as a reminder of the killing that continues to send shockwaves through the Clovis community.
"I come alone and I eat with him. I talk to him about my life and it helps," said Shaelynn Kirk, a friend of Caleb Quick.
Inside a Fresno County courtroom last week, investigators revealed more about a potential motive.
Attorneys said the murder was believed to have been carried out by the teenage couple in revenge for numerous sexual assaults allegedly committed by Quick.
His father has maintained his son's innocence, calling the allegations baseless and saying there is no police report of any kind.
United through faith, Quick's loved ones said they continue to push through the pain a year after his death.
"It's never going to go away you just learn to live with the pain that was caused," Kirk said
At this point, the legal process is still long from over, as we await the fate of both teens charged for this murder.
The female suspect currently in the middle of her high stakes transfer hearing to see a judge will rule in favor of moving her case to adult court.
Caleb's family and friends tell Action News they plan to be in the courtroom each day, they say until they get justice.
