CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- A cherished Clovis tattoo shop owner and motorcycle rider is speaking out for the first time to Action News following his traumatic near-death accident.

Back in March, Josh Farmer and some friends were riding their motorcycles up to Bass Lake when he got in a life-threatening crash.

The collision left Farmer unconscious for nearly a month. Doctors had to rebuild his spine with titanium.

Months later, his right eye is still closed shut.

He kept fighting and re-learned how to talk, walk and even breathe again.

Farmer says bikers take a risk each time they ride, but wants to share a message.

''I've lost a lot of friends, even family in these situations," he said. "I could tell you right now, a really good professional full-face helmet, as much as some guys don't want to hear it, will and can absolutely make a difference."

All Farmer wanted to do was regain strength in time for his daughter's 20th birthday, and he did that as the two shared a dance.

Josh appreciates all of the love and support he's received, but as he continues to recover, he is asking for space in this time and for people not to overwhelm the shop.
