Evacuation warnings lifted as containment on 'Fields Fire' grows in Merced County

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke has downgraded the evacuation warnings for the Fields Fire burning in Merced County.

On Sunday, Warnke said starting at noon, all evacuation warnings have been lifted and residents can return to their homes.

According to CAL FIRE, the Fields Fire has burned 1,280 acres off La Grange and Fields roads near Snelling.

The flames broke out just before 2 p.m. Thursday, quickly spreading in the dry grass.



131 firefighters are working to put out the flames, which are now 80 percent contained.

Merced Falls Road from La Grange to Hornitos Road is now open.

Power has been restored to all previously impacted residents.
