FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Big Fresno Fair is ready to welcome you for its 142nd year!

"It is the place where families come together and create memories," Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer said.

The ceremony paid tribute to the late John Harris, a pioneer of the Big Fresno Fair who passed away this past July.

A plaque was presented in his honor, keeping his legacy alive. Harris was instrumental in bringing horse racing to Fresno, which will not be happening this year.

"His legacy will always have a home here, where it belongs," Big Fresno Fair CEO Christina Estrada said.

Estrada also announced many of the new things to look forward to at the grandstand, including a rodeo, car show, monster trucks and much more.

Also new on the list is the Ivy Bar, the Candy Maze Selfie Trail, the Jurassic Adventure and the Sea Lion Splash.

"Here you can see them up close, take a selfie. That is something that is very different," Big Fresno Fair spokesperson German Amezcua said.

For those who love the thrill, new and traditional rides are set up including "THE KING," the largest carnival ride in the country.

Sean Butler with Butler Amusements says safety is their top priority and emphasizes that every single ride is thoroughly checked.

"All of our rides have been inspected by the state of California, and we have three independent ride inspectors doing inspections right before we open," he said.
