The early optimism has led to lofty expectations, with the Rams being viewed as Super Bowl favorites despite being only one week into training camp. According to the report, the team has strengthened its defense while bringing back its core offensive group.
Former Fresno State standout Davante Adams is entering his 13th NFL season. Wide receiver Puka Nacua addressed Adams during training camp.
"(Adams) looks like we are in year four together. Obviously, he's going into year 40 or whatever..." Nacau jokingly said. "...The acceptance of how we operate in our receiver room is something that he adopted immediately. I think it showed up in his game and the ability for us to be able to learn the levels of serparation he has.
Nacua and Adams are expected to continue their partnership this season. Nacua's contract extension remains unresolved, but he has continued to participate in practices despite the ongoing negotiations.
"Coming out here to see that No. 12 jersey hung up in my locker is something that I don't take for granted," Nacau said. "I think of all the guys that have reached out this off-season to be by my side. The level of connection I have with all the guys, it never crossed my mind to not be out here."
The Rams' biggest offseason addition was defensive end Myles Garrett. His arrival has generated enough excitement that former Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald has considered coming out of retirement, according to reports.
Garrett discussed the situation during training camp.
"I don't want to push (Donald) one way or another. If he's here, I'm going to be excited to be his teammate. I think we could do great things," Garrett said.
Head coach Sean McVay said he is pleased with the team's progress through the first four days of training camp.
Former Fresno State cornerback Al'zillion Hamilton, an undrafted free agent, is on the Rams' 90-man roster but is not participating in training camp. He has been placed on the physically unable to perform list with an undisclosed injury.
Rams training camp is scheduled to conclude Aug. 7. The team's first regular-season game will be played in Australia against the San Francisco 49ers.
