Hospital officials said the main campus continues to grow and sees an increase in patients each year, creating a need for additional space and updated facilities.
"We really need kind of a new place to see these patients and also kind of bring them more state-of-the-art rooms and an infusion center," said Dr. Faisal Razzaqi, a Valley Children's pediatric hematologist-oncologist.
The multimillion-dollar project will bring several subspecialties and key services together in one location.
"Pediatric hematology-oncology will be one of them. I believe orthopedics, orthopedic surgery will be there, and I think pediatric surgery will be out there as well," Dr. Razzaqi said.
Hospital leaders say the expansion is designed to make visits more convenient while enhancing the patient and family experience.
"We are limited on our infusion chairs, where we give our kids chemotherapy. Kids are often kind of sitting right next to each other. There's not as much privacy. Some families want more privacy. We don't have a great play area, so all of those things we can incorporate just to make the whole experience better for families." Dr. Razzaqi said.
Valley Children's plans to break ground on the new ambulatory pavilion in spring 2027. Construction is expected to take about two years.
