It happened Tuesday afternoon on Riverside Avenue near Ninth Street.
A man and woman, both in their late 20s to early 30s, were in front of a home when they got into an argument with a man.
Police say he's 20-year-old Nathanial Gonzalez.
At some point, he allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the man and woman.
Both were rushed to the hospital, where the man died.
The woman is expected to survive.
Police say Gonzales is a gang member but do not believe the shooting was gang-related.
This is the second homicide in Chowchilla this year.
