FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The suspect in the stray bullet shooting that killed a 51-year-old Fresno man has been arrested.

Fresno police say 43-year-old Kevin King was arrested by sheriff's deputies in Garvin County, Oklahoma on Thursday.

King is accused of negligently firing a single round that went through his apartment wall and struck his neighbor, Victor Becerra.

Officers issued a warrant for King's arrest months ago but couldn't say how Oklahoma law enforcement found him.

"This is a very unfortunate incident but we are very glad to report that Kevin King has been taken into custody and will be held accountable for his actions," said Fresno Police Sgt. Diana Trueba-Vega.

"At this point, the only thing that I can release is that he was arrested in Garvin County Oklahoma."

Since January 2, Fresno police have been looking for King.

Officials say King shot a gun in his apartment and the bullet pierced the wall, hitting and killing Becerra.

"Everybody deserves to be safe, not only in the city of Fresno but especially in their home, right? So, we see the ramifications of the negligent discharge of this firearm," said Trueba-Vega.

Becerra's daughter, Noemi, says he was holding his grandchild at the time.

"We see the baby fall out of his hands. Then one moment to another, and then slowly, he fades away," Noemi recalled.

Becerra was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he died.

An investigation pointed Fresno police to the next-door neighbor, King, but he was nowhere to be found.

Action News spoke to Becerra's daughter Noemi shortly after her father was shot and killed.

She hoped King would turn himself in.

"I simply just want Mr. King to own up to what he did. I feel like if he wouldn't have run, the circumstances would be different," Noemi had said at the time.

Instead, Fresno police say King was found out of state. He remains in custody in Oklahoma awaiting extradition.

"Extradition does take time it's not going to be immediate, but we are very thankful that he is in custody," explained Trueba-Vega.

King is facing multiple felony weapon charges as well as voluntary manslaughter and child endangerment.
