A correctional officer at Kern State Prison in Delano was shot Monday night.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A correctional officer at Kern State Prison in Delano was shot Monday night.

Authorities say the shots were fired from somewhere outside the prison's fences around 7:30 p.m. on Monday. They say up to 20 rounds were fired into the facility.

The correctional officer who was hit was treated and released from the hospital, Lt. Tom Mattson, spokesman for North Kern State Prison, told KERO-TV in Bakersfield.

Delano Police and the Kern County Sheriff's office are now looking for clues to find the gunman.
