Race & Culture Multi-Skilled Journalist


KFSN-TV/ABC30 Action News, the ABC Owned Television Station in Central California, is seeking to hire a multi-skilled journalist to cover the Race and Culture beat in our local market. Must be a passionate storyteller, brilliant multi-platform content creator, effective communicator and proven collaborator.

The multi-skilled journalist will work directly with the newsroom management teams and decision-makers to select and create content. The journalist will be part of the editorial decision-making process as it relates to story assignments, sourcing subjects featured in stories and developing community relationships to expand the diversity of voices included in our storytelling. Each journalist may be assigned specific beats with a goal of local and national distribution of the content across all OTV platforms. In addition, journalists will work closely with the ABC News Race & Culture Unit to identify areas of collaboration.

In addition, the journalists will work across the group and meet daily with the Executive Producers of Race & Culture to identify mission appropriate topics, stories and series for journalistic exploration and match with content creators throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and facilitate diversity & inclusion editorial discussions in your respective newsrooms.
  • The ideal candidates will be responsible for offering creative and innovative ideas for better story-telling as well as have the ability to work under deadline. They will also collaborate with other stations and teams for joint projects or special features and brainstorm different story angles and ways to increase social media presence. Understanding of digital platforms and social media preferred.

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of journalism experience; Significant experience producing long-form content
  • Must have the proven ability to take a story from concept to completion, including researching, interviewing, shooting, producing, writing, editing and presenting across all platforms
  • Significant reporting experience and sources in the area of Race & Culture
  • Candidates must be able to effectively manage story assignments and production in addition to collaborating with the Race & Culture Executive Producers and multiskilled journalists across OTV's 8 markets

    Sports Multi-Skilled Journalist


    KFSN-TV/ABC30 Action News, the ABC Owned Television station in Central California, is seeking a full-time Sports Multi-Skilled Journalist. The ideal candidate will shoot, write and edit sports stories for the station's top-rated newscasts and digital platforms. This person will also be responsible for line-producing the station's weekly Sunday night sports show. This person must be organized, and work well under pressure and constant deadlines. We want someone who is receptive to feedback, and brings a positive attitude every day.

    Responsibilities:
  • Shoot, write, and edit sports stories and local games.
  • Line produce Sunday night sports show.
  • Field report live from various sporting events.
  • Anchor for Sports Director and Weekend Sports Anchor as needed.

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience are required. This is not an entry-level position.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Dalet and Adobe Premiere are a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Central Valley and bilingual skills are a plus.

    Executive Producer


    KFSN-TV/ABC30 Action News, the ABC Owned Television station in Central California, has an immediate opening for an Executive Producer to lead our nightside team. We are seeking an innovative leader with superior news judgment to drive the gathering, creation and distribution of engaging, compelling content. This person manages content for digital and linear in conjunction with other news managers. This person will excel by executing big-picture goals while focusing on the details with daily content coverage. They will inspire the news team to produce enterprise content for linear, digital and social with storytelling that is optimized for each screen.

    Responsibilities:
  • Supervise newscast and digital producers and writers and provide consistent feedback by setting goals and contribute strategic content ideas in editorial meetings.
  • Collaborate with Assignment Editors and Digital Producers on multi-platform breaking news coverage.
  • Copy edit linear and digital scripts.
  • Work with marketing team to ensure the brand promise is met with our multi-platform content.
  • Foster a positive work-place attitude and encourage a collaborative spirit.
  • Perform other tasks as required by the News Director.

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in news production in a major TV market
  • 3 years of experience managing a team
  • The ideal candidate must have a keen understanding of multi-platform strategy, a track record of breaking news success stories and thrive in a very competitive environment.
  • Must be a proven leader with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Must be organized and work well under pressure with constant deadlines.
  • Experience producing dynamic newscasts with story showcasing and multiple live elements.

    Teleprompter Operator


    KFSN-TV ABC30, the Disney/ABC-owned television station in Fresno has an immediate opening for a Teleprompter Operator for part-time employment.

    Responsibilities:
    The successful candidate will operate the station's teleprompter control for the daily newscasts. The candidate must be successful at matching the speed of the scrolling text to the speaking of the presenter and adjust immediately to any improvisation of the scripts.

    Basic Qualifications:
    Must be able to read the text and understand the prompting cues within the scripts. Be able to successfully set up and operate teleprompting systems including computer device controls and newsroom computer systems. Knowledge of failovers for operating a redundant system. Must also be familiar with FCC caption rules and be able to monitor the on-air captions during the captioning process. This position requires the successful individual be able to work on rotating shifts, mornings, evenings, weekends and holiday work is required. The candidate must be able to sit for many hours and use a hand controller scroll wheel.

    Assignment Editor


    KFSN, the Disney/ABC-owned station in Fresno, is seeking an Assignment Editor to join our multiplatform content team. This individual is a critical member of our newsroom and will be responsible for coordinating assignments for news coverage and stories as well as contribute story ideas and content for both digital and broadcast. The successful candidate will have a high degree of ethics, empathy, professionalism, function well under pressure, and have strong multiplatform and multi-tasking skills.

    Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with News managers and producers on coordination of daily editorial content, including story coverage and development for broadcast and digital
  • Play a key role in execution of daily editorial plan, including coordination of story assignments and communicating information to reporters and photographers
  • Display high level of ethics, empathy, professionalism and act as primary contact for in-field newsroom staff for assignments and story coverage
  • Actively identify and generate original high-impact stories that reflect the diversity of our audience and develop follow-ups through means such as court documents, police scanners, social media, viewer emails and other sources
  • Assists reporters and producers, as needed, in gathering information and developing/following up on stories
  • Contribute content to all platforms including creating, writing and publishing stories for both broadcast and digital platforms and producing digital live streams
  • Maintain a presence on social media

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of linear + digital workflow in producing and posting content
  • Strong team player who interacts in a positive, ethical, empathetic and productive way with other employees and the general public

  • The ideal candidate understands how to cover spot news with urgency and attention to detail, and has an understanding of cross-platform, multi-media coverage. Must have excellent news judgment and instincts, with the ability to find stories that will help make our newscasts unique and distinctive.

    You should be skilled in monitoring scanners, social media and other sources to find and break news in our community. Be prepared to handle multiple breaking news stories in a fast-paced newsroom.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Dalet and various newsroom programs
  • Previous assignment desk, including coordinating movements of reporters and photographers, and/or digital producer experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience producing content across linear and digital platforms
  • Knowledge of Central California

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or related field
