Over 50 Fresno elementary students receive new bikes donated by London Properties

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Over 50 students at Fremont Elementary got a new bike on Thursday.

Teachers chose three deserving students from each of their classes, which was a surprise for those kids.

Joshua Jeffery, a student, said he was shocked when the principal called his name.

"I was actually really excited, I was shaking," he said with a smile on his face.

Jeffery explained nothing like this has ever happened to him.

Bailey Lane also got a bike and she feels proud.

While teachers chose deserving students it was also for good character traits like being respectful, caring, trustworthy and responsible. After each of the students were called up to get their bike the principal read a short description about the students and why they were chosen.

Parents also knew about the surprise and got to see the huge smile on their child's face as their name was called out.

"It means a lot. Christmas this year is not going to be like all the other years but this made it a little bit more extra special," said Natasha Coburn who is Bailey Lane's mother.

London Properties donated each of the bikes and on the bike was a helmet, as well as a lock and key.

Patrick Conner, president of London Properties, said they wanted to start a holiday tradition to give back to the community and thought a bike giveaway was the perfect way to go. He credits the community coming together to help make this possible for these students because all the bikes had to be assembled.

Conner mentioned that they have been able to donate around 400 bikes to schools across the valley and hopes to help more kids next year.
