Education day at the Big Fresno Fair draws thousands of students

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Thousands of students took over The Big Fresno Fair Thursday morning before the gates even opened.

Thousands of students, their teachers and parents all came to the fair for education day. "For a lot of them they could of never been to the fair, this could be the only time they could they come to the fair. This could be the only field trip their school takes," said Lauri King, Deputy Fair Manager.

King say the free field trip, sponsored by businesses and measure C, opens doors and connects kids of all ages with agriculture. "Learn what a baby goat is called, what a calf is, we also have lambs giving birth daily so there's something for them to see, to learn about what makes Fresno County unique as a large agricultural mecca."

Second grade teacher Danielle Amundsen came with her students, "It gives them something too, what we learn about in the classroom and they actually get to see it and actually get to touch it and learn about it. So it's good."

This is the 23rd year the event has taken place.

Students also got a chance to see inside the agriculture building and see the Bounty of the County, everything that's grown from limes to grapes and more. Teachers say they'll take these lessons back to the classroom.
