KINGSBURG, Calif. (KFSN) -- It is National School Choice Week, the nation's largest celebration of opportunity in education.

To commemorate the occasion Central Valley Home School in Kingsburg held an assembly featuring the Fresno Mineral Society's traveling rock and gem show. The school has 170 students.

Officials said the school works as a bridge between the parents and school. They come in for accountability and curriculum and teach their kids at home. The goal of Wednesday's event is to raise public awareness of all types of education options for children. "You can attend your public neighborhood school but if that doesn't work for you, you have options. There is home school, independent study, charter schools. There's lots of options out there. So we are celebrating our students for choosing us today," said Misti Jennings, Central Valley Home School Principal.

National School Choice Week is held each year in January. This year more than 16,000 events are being held across all fifty states.
