Team Smile gives free dental exam to 100 kids

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- For the ninth year in a row, Fresno State and local dentists helped under-served children in the Valley.

Team Smile is an advocacy group that pairs dentists and athletic teams to make oral hygiene fun. Together, the Fresno State Bulldogs and local volunteers gave free exams to more than 100 underprivileged children.

The dentists provide the exams, while the athletes educate the kids.

"It's a way for the kids to get free dental care have local athletes get to play with them, learn about oral hygiene, and leave with a ticket to a Fresno State home game," said Dr. Xavier Gutierrez, Team Smile.

Dozens of people from dental offices around the Valley volunteered their time for the cause.
