Hundreds of rounds of ammunition and multiple guns seized from single known gang member in SE Fresno
Police have confiscated at least six guns and made one notable arrest but that has done little to calm the violence.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police have confiscated at least six guns and made one notable arrest but that has done little to calm the violence.

There have been at least two shootings Friday night, following 24 hours of bloodshed. From Downtown Fresno to Southwest Fresno the calls did not cease.

Officers believe the shootings Friday night are part of a larger gang war that began Thursday. In the span of 10 hours, one high profile gang member was killed while five others were injured.

Already, officers had to respond to two shootings. One on Mariposa and S involving one car firing at another and a ShotSpotter call on Fresno and California.

Police say even the community's religious leaders can't get the gang members to stop.

"The streets is calling for help and if they don't get help from the cross they are going to meet each other here at the cross, with a casket in front of it," D.J. Criner said.

Officers say the most effective solution lies in probation searches. In a few hours, one of the special response teams confiscated hundreds of rounds of ammunition and other weapons from a known gang member.

They say this work, combined with intelligence will hopefully help them stop the city from getting caught in the crosshairs.
