1 dead, 1 injured in Merced County accident

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- One person is dead and another seriously injured after a car crashed into a big rig in Merced County.

It happened around 2 a.m. Thursday at Minturn Road and Le Grand. CHP officers say a semi was stopped at a stop sign, about to make a turn, when a Chevy Cruze rear-ended it.

Investigators don't believe the driver even knew the semi was stopped and hit the truck going about 55 miles per hour. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and his female passenger was flown to Modesto with major injuries.

The driver of the semi was not injured.
