MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- Both men accused of attacking a dog with machetes in Merced are now in custody. Merced police arrested Aaron Carney around 11 p.m. Friday after getting an anonymous tip. They arrested Myron Patillo a few hours earlier.
Investigators say the men tied a 1-year-old Siberian husky to a fire hydrant and slashed him with machetes. The injuries were so bad the dog, named Luscious, had to be euthanized.
The attack happened on Conestoga Drive Friday morning. Investigators say the suspects were angry after their dog got into a scuffle with the victim's dog. Carney and Patillo were booked into jail on robbery and animal cruelty charges.
On Saturday, Luscious' owner joined several other people in protesting against animal abuse in Merced. They gathered at the corner of G Street and Olive Avenue with signs calling for justice in this latest case and an end to animal cruelty in the community.
