FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two people are dead after being struck by two different Amtrak trains in the Valley on Sunday.

One of the fatal collisions happened in Northwest Fresno around 11:30 a.m. Officials say Train 712, which was traveling from Oakland to San Diego, hit and killed a woman near Herndon and Santa Fe avenues. Police say she was walking on the railroad tracks with her back to the train when she was struck. The conductor told officers he blew the horn for at least a mile, but the woman never moved.

"There was just simply no response from the individual, not knowing whether she has any hearing impairments or if she was intoxicated or anything of that nature, at this point we don't know, but the conductor did everything they could to try to warn the individual that an oncoming train was approaching," said Sgt. Clayton Smith with the Fresno Police Department.

Police say the victim appeared to be 25 to 30 years old, and possibly a transient. Her name has not been released.

The other incident occurred in Kings County. Officials say Train 713, which was traveling from Bakersfield to Oakland, fatally struck a person as it approached the Amtrak station in Corcoran. That person's name has not been made available either.

Both Amtrak trains were delayed, but no one on board was injured.
