Car accident sparks fire in O'Neals area

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Firefighters are working to contain a vegetation fire in Madera County. The fire is burning off Road 200 near House Ranch Road in the O'Neals area.

Authorities say it started around 6:30 p.m. Sunday after a car lost control and rolled over before bursting into flames. Fortunately, no one in the vehicle was seriously hurt.

But the fire spread up the steep hillside, growing to three acres before Cal Fire crews and volunteer firefighters stopped the forward progress. They are still working to get containment.

Road 200 remains closed in that area, so drivers going between O'Neals and North Fork will have to take a detour through Oakhurst.
