Clovis mail thieves caught red-handed

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Clovis police say two thieves are in jail Sunday after stealing mail from dozens of people.

Officers arrested 36-year-old Tanya Barnes and 34-year-old John Holmes of Madera last night. Someone spotted the pair possibly tampering with a mailbox near Baron and Dakota avenues.

So the resident followed the suspects after they took off in an SUV and called authorities, police say Barnes still had several pieces of stolen mail in her lap when they were caught.

Investigators determined they had broken into 19 community mailboxes, giving them access to the mail of more than 100 people.
