Fresno County jail employee confesses to stealing $500, investigators say

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno County jail employee is facing criminal charges for stealing money from a cash register.

Investigators say Ana Montes took $500 while working as an office assistant at the Concealed Weapons Permit Renewal Office. During an interview with Montes, investigators say she confessed to the crime and then resigned.

The sheriff's office says it will pursue criminal charges against her and is handing over the case to the Fresno County District Attorney.

Investigators have not yet released a picture of her.
