FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno police officer is recovering from head injuries after a bizarre attack involving a McDonald's employee Friday night.

Investigators say Tyler Deel punched the officer in the face, beat him with his own baton and tried to grab his gun. They also say the 23-year-old refused to cooperate for a photo after his arrest.

Deel works at the McDonald's on Kings Canyon Road and Clovis Avenue in Southeast Fresno. Officer Eloy Escareno went there around 10:30 p.m. for reports that the suspect was fighting with the store manager.

Authorities say Escareno was talking to Deel, when he suddenly attacked the officer because he "hates cops." Escareno managed to get control of the suspect until backup arrived and took him into custody. Deel was later booked into the Fresno County Jail on felony charges.
