Hearse stolen outside South Los Angeles church with casket inside

SOUTH LOS ANGELES -- A hearse with a casket inside was stolen outside of Ebenezer Baptist Church in South Los Angeles.

Investigators said the hearse was parked outside the church at 4901 Avalon Boulevard on Saturday morning with the keys inside.

Those attending the funeral apparently watched as a man got inside and drove away.

Some followed him and got him to pull over, but they ended up in a scuffle with him.

When police got there, they took the man into custody. Officials described the man as mentally ill.

No one was injured and the funeral was able to continue as planned.
