Toamalama Scanlan was transferred by air ambulance to a rehabilitation hospital in Houston that specializes in rehab for brain injuries.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- There's encouraging developments in the recovery of Fresno County correctional officer Malama Scanlan.

He was transferred by air ambulance to a rehabilitation hospital in Houston Friday. It specializes in rehab for brain injuries.

Scanlan has been at the neuro-intensive care unit at UC San Francisco for the last month.

A suspect shot Scanlan and fellow officer Juanita Davila inside the Fresno County Jail in September.
