FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- New information about a homicide victim, killed in Southwest Fresno late Saturday night. The deadly shooting happened just before 10 p.m. near Holly and Grove Avenues. Detectives are identifying the man shot and killed as 34-year-old Christopher Calvin Mitchell. He was standing alongside another victim, police said, who's still here at the hospital
A small memorial marks the spot where Fresno police tried to save the dying man.
"They arrived very quickly and found two victims, a male subject who they rendered immediate first aid to and a female victim who also suffered from multiple gunshot wounds," said Lt. Mindy Casto of the Fresno Police Department.
But police said even medical help couldn't save Christopher Calvin Mitchell, 34, who died here after being shot multiple times.
The other victim, a 39-year-old female, is now stable after undergoing immediate surgery. It's a miracle, as police said she was struck in the stomach and legs by a barrage of bullets. Now the search for the suspects begins.
"We were able to develop witnesses who were cooperative and provided information to officers," said Casto.
Police said the two victims were shot while standing next to a parked car along a curb. That's when they say a car pulled up next to the victims and began firing.
"When a major crime like this occurs the detectives will come out and they will work around the clock attempting to develop leads," said Casto.
Late Saturday night, officers said there was no indication the shooting was gang related.
Police said the suspect vehicle is a light four door car. Anyone with information about this crime, is urged to call the police department.
