SAN DIEGO -- A San Diego man risked his own life to save his neighbor's beloved dog from a raging house fire.

The dog was trapped inside the burning home.

The neighbor raced up the side of a canyon and entered the house after hearing the homeowner's cries for help.

The homeowner managed to escape on his own but couldn't find his dog. The neighbor was able to get the frightened pooch out just in time.

"And I saw him cowering under the flames and I thought, I've got to save him. I was worried he was going to burn so I ran into the flames, grabbed him and ran," the neighbor described.

The house was a total loss, but luckily, there were no serious injuries.
