A high speed collision involving a fuel tanker truck in Selma was caught on camera.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A high speed collision involving a fuel tanker truck in Selma was caught on camera.

Heather Shearer heard the impact and said, "It's shocking to see that something like that can happen right outside your door."

A white Lexus was left a mangled mess at Fowler and Conejo. Its 74-year-old driver suffered major injuries. He was air-lifted to the hospital.

Sgt. Ron DeChamplain of the California Highway patrol said, "The passenger, a younger man, was wearing his seat belt. His injuries are moderate."

A Chevron tanker truck was left twisted as it rolled down the road after impact. The driver was okay.

Shearer said, "He had gotten out of his truck because he thought it was going to blow. We thought it was going to blow too."

The CHP said the Lexus blew a stop sign. Jennifer Shearer showed us surveillance video which confirmed that account.

"We just watched the white car and the truck come at the same time and boom. The white car just smashed into the truck and the truck flips. It flipped here and started rolling."

The tanker was full of diesel at the time.

Shearer said, "There was a lot of fuel. It leaked all the way from here all the way to the trucker and as soon as I walked past it you could smell it."

Crews were busy cleaning up the area.

Ryan Michaels of Cal Fire said, "In all, about 20 gallons of diesel but with the rains coming that can be an issue."

A portion of Fowler Avenue had to be shut down for several hours.
