Shots fired near Selma High School during football game
FRESNO, Calif. -- Gunfire broke out near the Selma High School's football stadium during Friday night's game sending people scrambling.
Officers had the area west of Selma High School taped off after shots were fired during the halftime of the Selma versus Coalinga football game. Witnesses tell us it happened behind the press box on Thompson right as the marching band was getting ready to take the field.
Officers say two cars crashed just outside the stadium and one of the drivers opened fire on the other driver. Police and sheriff's deputies saturated the area. Officers say they detained one of the drivers, but they say he was not a suspect. The driver who was shooting got away and officers are still look for him. Police say an extra shot also came from a nearby home.
"We're always concerned whenever violence occurs no matter where in the city. Obviously right next to a high school event isn't the best place to have this happen but there is no good place to have this happen," said Greg Garner, Selma Police Department.
According to police, no one was injured in the shooting. School officials are now working with Selma Police in the investigation.
The football game with Coalinga was postponed.
