Woman dead after crashing into Mendota canal
The California Highway Patrol doesn't know how fast she was traveling or why she crashed but they said her car hit the side of a canal, went airborne and became fully submerged into the water.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Investigators are trying to figure out how a woman crashed into a Mendota canal and died Sunday afternoon.



The driver was traveling on Highway 180 and Belmont Avenue, just down the street from Mendota High School, when the crash happened.



The California Highway Patrol doesn't know how fast she was traveling or why she crashed but they said her car hit the side of a canal, went airborne and became fully submerged into the water.



The Fresno County Coroner's Office have identified the woman as 52-year-old Alexis Sowa of Fresno.
