FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A woman is dead after a house fire in Central Fresno, fire officials say.
The fire broke out around 8:30 a.m. Saturday near Shields and Maroa Avenues. Authorities say the older woman was wheelchair-bound and possibly died of smoke inhalation after the blaze was sparked. There were no smoke detectors inside the home.
Crews with the Fresno Fire Department immediately went into rescue mode when they arrived, but the woman died at the scene.
A firefighter was treated at the scene by emergency medical service officials for minor injuries.
Investigators are still looking into the exact cause of the fire.
